Troy and Morgan

Our beloved husband, father, grandpa, friend and neighbor died at home in Palo Alto on December 23, 2009. He was 69.

Troy was born in Laredo, Texas, raised in Heavener, Oklahoma and, as a teenager, took the train to California with his cousin. When he ran out of money, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served four years. While stationed in Hawaii, he met Dorothy on Waikiki Beach, whom he married in 1962. They settled in Palo Alto and he worked as a carpenter for approximately 30 years.

Troy was an avid reader who appreciated the simple things in life - a cup of coffee while reading the newspaper, spending time each day at the Mitchell Park dog park with his golden lab, and a piece of good chocolate now and then. He enjoyed a good home repair problem to solve and applied his ingenuity to help many throughout the community over the years. He took great pride in his work and what he built or repaired lasted a lifetime. His thoughtfulness and humor were his trademark - if you met him once, you always remembered him.

Most of all Troy enjoyed time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy, their children Cathleen (Levi) Samora of Dacono, CO, Brion (LaNette) [last name withheld for Web] of Mountain View, CA and Hilari (Scott) Gaines of Walnut Creek, CA, five grandchildren and many lifelong friends and neighbors.

A celebration of his life [was] held on January 2, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in Mountain View.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue (GGLRR Donations, P.O. Box 2646, Menlo Park, CA 94026), or to Common Ground, 559 College Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94306.
