What is a URL?
INTERNET TERMINOLOGY:
GETTING STARTED:
For a minimal yearly fee they will make sure the name you choose isn't currently being used, and will make sure that the name you select won't be used by anyone else. Please be aware that yourname.com can also be used as yourname.org, yourname.usa, and many other dot somethings. (The last we heard, Network Solutions was offering free domain registration if you sign up for one of their hosting packages). When we design your site, we will transfer the files to Network Solutions, where the whole wide word can see your site!
If you would like your "page" hosted by cyberstars.com, your URL would be www.cyberstars.com/yourname.
If you want your own domain name URL, you'll need to be hosted by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) we recommend Vario.com your URL would then be www.yourname.com (if you choose Vario, please mention J72 you should get special attention).
WEB SITE DESIGN & PLACEMENT:
PLACEMENT ON SEARCH ENGINES:
SAMPLES OF META TAGS:
Meta tag <keywords> are any words you think folks might type in order to find your site/page on search engines. Some search engines actually spider your entire site to obtain keywords. Others use meta tags.
Update 5/7/05: Google.com is using meta tags less, and instead spidering your entier site. If your site is location dependent, be sure to have a list of "service areas" on one of your pages.

ISP is an Internet Host (for your Web site)
www stands for World Wide Web: world wide is self explanatory. Unlike an organizational chart, your Web pages can link forward, sideways, and back many different times. If you were to chart your site and draw directional arrows, it would start to look like a spider's web.
URL means Univeral Resource Location
HTML means Hyper Text Markup Language -- the original language used by Web site developers to create Web sites. There are automatic Website software packages available, but it you run into trouble, you won't know how to get yourself out.
A Web page is a page on a Web site.
A Web site can be either one page or many pages, usually hosted under it's own URL (web address).
Links are words coded so that when clicked, they call up another page or another Website. Links are usually a different color from the rest of the text, and are underlined unless it's obvious that they're links (as in the menu at left).
Bannersare artwork links that when clicked normally bring up the Website of the company advertised on them. Unless you have graphics turned off on your browser, you've probably seen banners as "pop up" ads.
Let's start with your domain name. If you want your own URL, you'll need to get the name you intend to use registered with an Internet Domain Name Registrar. We recommend www.NetworkSolutions.com
You will either design your own Website or have Cyberstars do it. then either you or we will ftp (file transfer protocol) your files onto Cybersars.com or onto the ISP of your choice. FTP software is available FREE from www.tucows.com
One of the ways is to use good meta tags. If your business is refinishing furniture from your local store, you'll want to make sure you include your physical address in your meta tags, or description, or better yet, the name of your Website.
<meta name="keywords" CONTENT="key words go here -- anything you think folks might type in search engines to find you">
<meta name="description" CONTENT= "A 23-word-or-less description of your Website"> (important for Yahoo.com submittals) Google.com spiders your entire site.
You are looking at a frames format. The screen is divided into sections, usually with a "title" header, and a "menu" usually at the left portion of your screen. The advantage is that the menu remains constant when links are selected (even off of your page 3 like this one). There were problems in the past regarding search engines and "frames" formatting. With the use of "spider-map" and "robots.txt" files, search engines can easily find pages on your Website.
